Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to teach interns about the field of public relations and to help acclimate them to the demands of the profession. Each intern will receive hands-on, real-world experience as they team up with ‘Saxumites’ on projects such as: Public relations and media campaigns, project planning, research and intelligence gathering, writing, brand development and many others. Saxum interns are invited to join client account teams and to work alongside even senior public relations practitioners.

Qualifications:
Applicants should be juniors, seniors or graduate students with a background in public relations, journalism, marketing, communications or broadcast journalism. Public affairs interns will be considered each spring, while Oklahoma Legislature is in session. Applicants should exhibit strong writing, organizational and interpersonal skills as well as show an interest in current events, federal, state and local government, and in issues pertinent to Oklahoma. Job Description:
Interns will be required to perform the following tasks.

  1. Conduct research and maintain databases on an assortment of projects. Examples include maintaining media lists, tracking media results, maintaining resource library and conducting online research. A great deal of Internet research will be required.
  2. Participate in staff meetings to brainstorm ideas for current and potential clients.
  3. Assist staff in managing a variety of client projects. May include background research, planning special events, news conferences and seminars, writing press releases and other collateral material, proofreading and developing creative concepts to meet the client’s needs.
  4. Participate in client meetings.
  5. Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to taking notes in meetings and other administrative tasks.

OFRG Announces Internship Program
College students to get up-close look at governmental process

(Oklahoma City, OK) Oklahomans for Responsible Government is proud to announce the start of an internship program that will offer college students the opportunity to work in several areas including communications, research and governmental relations.

“I was fortunate to be able to serve as an intern at the State Capitol during college, so I know how much it can help a student put what they’re learning into practice,” said Brian Downs, OFRG Executive Director.

Applications will be accepted through November 15thfor the first internship period which will run from January 15th through May 15th which includes most of the next legislative session. Two internships will be awarded with the winners notified by December 1st. Hook & Hunt TV Show Intern Needed - Unpaid

Intern for a new outdoor call in talk show on the Radio Oklahoma Network called the Hook and Hunt show. In need of an intern who can help produce the show, which airs Sat and Sunday morning from 5am to 6am. It’s carried over 15 stations on RON, including KOCD-FM 103.7 and the old KOMA-AM, now KOKC-AM, 1520.

Person needed who can assist our host Steve Schiffner in lining up guests, digging for stories and generally help Steve produce the show. This is a non paying job but will have a great deal of responsibility. The job can be done in Edmond via the Internet and phone as well as some trips. The show can get them a cell phone or a phone card to use in making calls.

The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department is looking for an intern for the fall semester to work on its new Sustainable Initiatives program. Following the growing popularity and desire for sustainable and green travel options the department is in the process of developing and launching a statewide sustainable tourism program. This program will include certification, education and marketing components. It will engage tourism providers as well as informing travelers on how to make more sustainable choices while traveling in Oklahoma. This is a dynamic program combining marketing, education, research and environmental studies. The intern will assist the Sustainable Initiatives Coordinator in launching the program and publicizing the components of the program. Projects will include researching sustainable travel, managing databases, managing social network sites, merchandising sustainable products and producing original materials for website content. There will also be opportunities to work on sustainable events, conferences and workshops.

The Development Intern will work directly with Development Office staff in fund-raising for the Arts Council of Oklahoma City. The Harn Homestead is a non-profit historic museum dedicated to preserving the historic homestead that belonged to William Fremont Harn and to educating the public about the territorial years of Oklahoma. Job Description:
Internship primarily responsible for assisting Executive Director and Director of Special Events & Marketing with on-going public relations duties as well as preparation for the Harn Homestead’s special events including the “Hootenanny at the Harn” red dirt music event in September; the “Haunt the Harn” trick-or-treating event in October; and the “Territorial Christmas Celebration” holiday open house event in December. Duties may include running errands, assisting with event planning, securing and scheduling volunteers, data entry, phone calling, bulk mailing, fundraising, event set-up and decorationing, as well as assisting Education Director with teaching elementary students, giving guided tours, and gift shop sales.

Working together, the City of Stillwater and the Chamber of Commerce are seeking an intern, or interns, to lead an effort to increase the response rate to the 2010 census. The goal is increase the number of individuals who complete the census in order to achieve a population of 50,001. Because of the large number of students, college communities have historically been undercounted. There is strong evidence that this has occurred for Stillwater. Achieving a population of 50,001 will bring a variety of positive benefits to our community.

The Project
A strategic plan for increasing the response has been provided to the City of Stillwater by a marketing research firm. The intern will work closely with the Office of the Mayor and the Chamber of Commerce to implement the plan. The major focus of the plan is to employ various marketing and public relations tactics to influence OSU students to complete the 2010 census forms. Similar plans have been successful in other college communities.

The Timeline
The Mayor would like to have the project begin as quickly as possible. It will continue through the end of the Spring semester of 2010.

Funding
Funding will be available to support the intern. In addition, course credit may be available as well.

Downtown OKC Internships for Summer & Fall - Paid

Downtown OKC Inc., is looking for an enthusiastic, energetic public relations/communications/event intern. Be part of exciting events, including a 5K run, an outdoor concert series, and Oklahoma City’s premier winter event: Downtown in December. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the development and coordination of Downtown in December special events including Snow Tubing at the Brick, the Downtown in December Ice Rink and Holidays on the Canal.
  • Assist with special events produced by Downtown OKC, Inc. including set up, tear down, scheduling, etc.
  • Write and edit press releases
  • Assist with website updates.
  • Assist with occasional photography and basic graphic design.

Summer 2009 position is from June 1 – July 31, 2009, 15-25 hours per week. Fall 2009 position is from September 1 – December 18, 2009, 10-15 hours per week.

Internship Description:
Interns for the Senate Communications Division are responsible for assisting staff with day to day responsibilities, including distribution of news clippings internally, as well as filing and faxing press releases. Interns may also be required to write "form" press releases which require specific information to be entered into a standard template. Interns may also be asked to assist the communications staff during press conferences and other media events. Work hours will be arranged to fit the student’s schedule. Morning work hours are preferred.

Criteria for intern applicants with the Senate Communications Division:

  • Applicants should be able to touch-type, with a net speed of approximately 45 wpm.
  • Applicants must have good internet skills and be adept at using the internet for research, writing, and emailing press releases.
  • Applicants will interview for the intern position.

A $100 transportation stipend is provided at the successful completion of the internship.

An internship with the Senate Communications Division will provide students insight as to the relationship between elected officials and the media as well as a first hand look at representative democracy in action. Interested students should have a high interest in government and communications, be responsible and accountable for their work, and behave in a mature and professional manner in the office setting.
