Position Location: Oklahoma City, Okla.
The Oklahoma City Planning Department is offering a paid internship for the Urban Redevelopment Division that focuses on downtown and urban areas throughout the city.
The division offers a wide variety of hands-on experience from writing web copy and media releases to preparing power points and scripts for public presentations. Our unique projects allow students to learn about exciting development projects downtown with huge impacts on OKC’s future. We’re an active think tank environment with a reputation for getting things done. It’s an internship you don’t want to miss out on!
* Media
o Write media releases
* Marketing
o Photo shoots of employees
o Before and after photos of development projects
o Research and writing web content
o Brochures and marketing materials for various programs
* Public Interaction
o Coordinating interview times
o Assisting with interviews
o Writing summaries and taking pictures
o Meeting weekly deadlines
* Event Planning
o Planning and preparing public events
o Coordinating set up and tear down
o Documenting event with photos, sign in sheets, and summaries
* Networking
o Meet professionals from various professional organizations and companies
* Internal Communication
o Coordinating internal meetings for special projects
* Attend weekly and monthly department meetings as well as event planning and other meetings as they arise.
o Stay actively involved in meetings by providing input and ideas
o Communicate to members your role for the week (what you will be working on/what needs to be done) and the status of your current and long term projects.
Please note that this is a paid internship offering valuable career experience. Our office hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, but this position has flexible hours and is part-time temporary in nature. Writing is a very substantial part of the internship, and we are looking for someone that has a journalism or public relations background. We would prefer the applicant work a minimum of 15-20 hours a week. Internship is begins in October 2010 and end date is negotiable and dependent on funding.
