The Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs (OCPA) is seeking a paid intern for the Fall semester to assist the Communications and Development staff.
Preferred candidates should hold or be pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing or advertising. Knowledge of AP Style is preferred.
The Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs, founded in 1993, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and is the state’s only free-market, public-policy think tank focused on research and ideas related to limited government, free-enterprise, individual initiative and liberty.
Our intern will have the opportunity to gain experience in communications, public affairs, media relations, event planning, social media and development.
Typical tasks include assisting staff with:
Marketing new research and publications
Planning and marketing major events
Purchasing advertising
Preparing our weekly e-newsletter
Writing and editing news releases and editorials
Updating our policy blog
Updating our Twitter, Facebook and YouTube accounts on a daily basis
Preparing weekly videos
Writing and editing fundraising letters
Photography
Coordinating projects with various graphic artists, printers and mail houses.
In addition, our intern will attend and contribute to a weekly staff meeting and a weekly marketing and development strategy staff meeting.
OCPA’s office is located just south of the state Capitol building, and our intern will have the opportunity to interact with lawmakers, legislative and administrative agency staff, policy experts and the media on a weekly basis.
The internship begins September 5 and concludes approximately December 10 (negotiable) Candidates should be able to work 20-25 hours per week.
