Pelco Inc. - Designs and manufactures traffic signal hardware, utility poles and decorative outdoor lighting.

Length of Internship: To be determined; not to exceed 3 semesters
Hours Requirement: 20 hours per week; some may be off-site, but travel is not required
Reports To: Marketing Director

This position is a paid internship, subject to academic approval for internship course credit. This opportunity is available to College Juniors or Seniors with Public Relations, Marketing, Communications or other applicable major. This student must be currently enrolled in college, and not on any type of academic probation.

General Purpose: This position is responsible for assisting the marketing director with various projects and programs including public relations, writing and research. This is a new position in a rapidly expanding department. Solid opportunities to be involved in creating, expanding and executing full public relations campaigns and completing abundant portfolio-quality work.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Must be a strong writer, with the ability to conduct research through various methods.
  • Participate in the planning and creative process for developing public relations and advertising campaigns
  • Write and edit press releases, web stories and newsletter articles
  • Write and edit copy for print ads and additional promotional items
  • Provide media relations support and follow up
  • Conduct formal and informal research projects
  • Contact and follow up with the media regarding story opportunities
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned

Basic Job Requirements:

  • Organized and detailed orientated with a proven ability to multi-task
  • Able to adhere to strict deadlines and take detailed direction
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, e-mail, Internet and PowerPoint
  • Writing, layout and editing skills
  • Ability to conduct research through various methods
  • Must work between 10 to 20 hours per week; hours are flexible and some work can be done off site

Background Required: Position available to college Juniors or Seniors with Public Relations, Marketing, Communications or other applicable major. Student must be currently enrolled in a college or university, and not on any type of academic probation.

Compensation: This position is subject to academic approval for internship course credit. A monthly stipend of $500.00 will be provided, as long as student is meeting the requirements of this internship. This is about $6.25 an hour.
