Marketing Communications Internship Nonprofit - Paid, Summer 09

The Oklahoma Humanities Council seeks an intern skilled at website maintenance and application of electronic enhancements to our marketing and fundraising functions. This may include establishing social media, posting podcasts, and initiating creative features on our existing website. This is for summer 2009.

The position may also include writing press releases, fact finding, assisting with print publications, and other related duties, with opportunities to participate in portfolio-quality marketing materials. Strong writing and organizational skills are essential. Students in good standing from Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Communications and other applicable programs are encouraged to apply.

Very Interesting Internship in Stillwater - Paid

Increasing the 2010 Census Response Rate
A City of Stillwater Internship Position

Working together, the City of Stillwater and the Chamber of Commerce are seeking an intern, or interns, to lead an effort to increase the response rate to the 2010 census. The goal is increase the number of individuals who complete the census in order to achieve a population of 50,001. Because of the large number of students, college communities have historically been undercounted. There is strong evidence that this has occurred for Stillwater. Achieving a population of 50,001 will bring a variety of positive benefits to our community.

The Project
A strategic plan for increasing the response has been provided to the City of Stillwater by a marketing research firm. The intern will work closely with the Office of the Mayor and the Chamber of Commerce to implement the plan. The major focus of the plan is to employ various marketing and public relations tactics to influence OSU students to complete the 2010 census forms. Similar plans have been successful in other college communities.

The Timeline
The Mayor would like to have the project begin as quickly as possible. It will continue through the end of the Spring semester of 2010.

Funding
Funding will be available to support the intern. In addition, course credit may be available as well.

Internship Description:
Interns for the Senate Communications Division are responsible for assisting staff with day to day responsibilities, including distribution of news clippings internally, as well as filing and faxing press releases. Interns may also be required to write "form" press releases which require specific information to be entered into a standard template. Interns may also be asked to assist the communications staff during press conferences and other media events. Work hours will be arranged to fit the student’s schedule. Morning work hours are preferred.

Criteria for intern applicants with the Senate Communications Division:

  • Applicants should be able to touch-type, with a net speed of approximately 45 wpm.
  • Applicants must have good internet skills and be adept at using the internet for research, writing, and emailing press releases.
  • Applicants will interview for the intern position.

A $100 transportation stipend is provided at the successful completion of the internship.

An internship with the Senate Communications Division will provide students insight as to the relationship between elected officials and the media as well as a first hand look at representative democracy in action.
