Barons Internship Program

The Barons are currently accepting internship applications for the 2011 – 12 season. Please read below for application instructions.

The Barons Internship Program is a great way for college-level students to acquire credits and/or experience while learning the business side of professional hockey. Our program provides a number of students with an overall learning experience to include such areas as: Community Relations, Public Relations, Sales and Ticket Operations, Sponsorship Fulfillment, Game Day Promotions, General Office Management, and Merchandise Sales.

The Barons organization utilizes the utmost in professionalism in everything we do. We are in search of highly competitive, highly motivated individuals who have a clear commitment to a career in sports and entertainment venue marketing/management.

Application and Interview Process
In order to be considered for an internship position it is required that each candidate submits a complete formal application before September 9, 2011.

A formal application consists of the following items:

Current resume
A letter of reference which a professor or employer of choice should write addressing skills acquired and general aptitude. These letters need to be sent as part of the application, not separately.

Once all of the applications for an internship position are reviewed, we will interview candidates whose credentials, experience, and interests are most equivalent to the available internship position. All other candidates will be encouraged to re-submit an application the following year for reconsideration.

Once chosen, we will conduct a series of interviews consisting of the following:

Initial phone interview
In-person interview with a front office staff member
All candidates will be responsible for their own travel expenses to Oklahoma City, OK for any in-person interviews. The department director or manager will contact candidates to schedule in-person interviews.

Attendance Policy
We will strictly enforce an attendance policy for all interns. Internship hours will be discussed and agreed upon prior to hire. In the event the intern shows disregard for this policy, we do reserve the right to terminate the intern’s employment at any time.

This internship revolves around creating content for the Barons website and social media outlets. The intern would be responsible for gathering interviews (audio and video), writing feature stories, statistical computation, some design work, analyzing media and handing credential requests.

Digital Media / Broadcast / Social Media

Distribute information across all Barons social media outlets
Conduct meaningful daily chatter on Barons social media outlets
Participate in social media conversation / updates during Barons home/road games
Contribute to weekly calendar of items to appear on Barons website and social media platforms
AP writing skills for press releases, feature stories or postgame stories needed
Media collection and analysis
Gather and upload content for the Barons website
Knowledge of Adobe products such as Photoshop/InDesign/Illustrator a plus
Ability to shoot video with a professional grade camera
Ability to edit video
Attend all Barons home games during 11-12 season
Attend various functions away from rink as needed
Interview Assistance for media outlets
Send postgame stories to media outlets
Daily & Seasonal Credentials
Pocket schedule requests

Nonprofit PR Internship, Unpaid

Department: Marketing/Development
Supervisory responsibilities: None
Reports to: Marketing Manager

Primary Purpose: Under the direction of the Marketing Manager and the VP of Marketing and Development, the Marketing and PR Intern assists the Marketing Department with day-today activities. He/she will help Generate a greater awareness of the Regional Food Bank throughout our service area; assist with special projects, special events, food drives and cause marketing campaigns.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with media lists and media contact databases
Compose and distribute press releases to media outlets (includes taking photographs as needed)
Assist with newspaper clippings, including organizing, summarizing, evaluating and developing reports
Assist in administrative duties associated with PR/Marketing activities
Proactively seek out stories from the field (agencies, Food Bank programs, etc.), perform interviews and write articles for the Food Bank blog.
Maintain Style Guide, promoting standardized communications
Assist with pitching media
Assist with Special Events, including, but not limited to:
Hunger Action Month (Sept)
Students Against Hunger food drive (Oct/Nov)
Chefs’ Feast (Apr)
Feeding Hope and Letter Carriers’ Food Drive (May/June)

Nonprofit PR Internship, Unpaid

Parents Assistance Center (PAC) has an opening for an intern to assist with fundraising and public relations activities. This is an unpaid internship but is eligible for class credit.

Hours: approx. 20 per week with a flexible schedule

Under the supervision of the Executive Director and the Public Relations Coordinator, the Development Assistant will help implement the fund raising and public relations activities for Parents Assistance Center.

Job Duties may include:

Assist with special events
Solicitation and acknowledgement of contributions
Data entry
Provide support to Board of Directors and other committees
Design and create agency collateral materials including brochures, ads, flyers, etc.
Prepare press releases and coverage regarding organization’s activities and events
Handle social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube,etc.)
Coordinate and implement marketing projects to increase organization awareness, including monthly dine-out events
Take photos and create a photo library
Raise public awareness for PAC
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications: Excellent computer skills including MS Word, Excel & Outlook. Major in public relations, journalism, marketing or communications preferred. Must be organized, detail oriented with a proven ability to multi-task, and exhibit time and stress management skills; self-motivated and able to work in a fast paced environment. Also must be dependable, have a positive attitude, team player, professional demeanor and respectful attitude.

Event Planning Internship, Unpaid

The Exchange is an events management company specializing in outrageous signature events for corporate, nonprofit and individual partners. No dead chicken lunches here, people.

Intership Description
Under direction of the Events Manager, assist with all aspects of producing valuable events for The Exchange and our partners. This position will require a maximum of 20 hours per week and is a non-paid internship.

Job duties of the Events Coordinator Intern include, but are not limited to:

General design and copy for direct mail pieces and event materials
Communication with vendors
Maintenance of event guest lists and databases
Volunteer recruitment and cultivation
Research and data collection relevant to The Exchange and our events
Skills, Abilities & Personal Characteristics

General Knowledge of Computer Programs-Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, as well as the ability to quickly learn new programs

Minimum Qualifcations
