Company History:
The Harn Homestead is a non-profit historic museum dedicated to preserving the historic homestead that belonged to William Fremont Harn and to educating the public about the territorial years of Oklahoma. The museum encompasses 9.4 acres of original land run property and houses seven historical buildings. Annually over 15,000 public, private and homeschool children participate in the museum’s hands-on educational programming. In addition, another 10,000 guests visit the property for tours of Mr. & Mrs. Harn’s historic home. The Harn Homestead is available for private parties and corporate and civic events and also has four awareness events and one large fundraiser annually.

Job Description:
Internship primarily responsible for assisting Executive Director and Director of Special Events & Marketing with on-going public relations duties as well as preparation for the Harn Homestead’s special events including the “Hootenanny at the Harn” red dirt music event in September; the “Haunt the Harn” trick-or-treating event in October; and the “Territorial Christmas Celebration” holiday open house event in December. Duties may include running errands, assisting with event planning, securing and scheduling volunteers, data entry, phone calling, bulk mailing, fundraising, event set-up and decorating, as well as assisting Education Director with teaching elementary students, giving guided tours, and gift shop sales.

Qualifications:
Coursework in communications, public relations or related field preferred. Must possess a willingness to work with a diverse group of individuals in an outdoor environment. Must have good organizational, customer service, outside sales, public speaking, excellent computer and time management skills. Must be willing to dress in historic costumes that are provided when needed. Work is both outdoors and indoors and does entail a lot of walking and standing.
