Nonprofit Indian Heritage Internship - Unpaid

Red Earth, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization with a mission to promote the rich traditions of American Indian arts and cultures through education, a premier festival, a museum and fine art markets. Since 1978 the organization has operated the Red Earth Museum, open every day inside Science Museum Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. The organization also produces the award-winning Red Earth Native American Cultural Festival held every June.

PURPOSE: The Red Earth internship program is designed to provide experience in public relations, event planning, marketing and related areas, as well as guide students in learning about career options.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Dissemination of information about the Red Earth Museum and Red Earth Festival to appropriate audiences
2. Assist in the preparation of news releases
3. Assist in the planning, organization and staffing of fully-functioning press room open throughout the Red Earth Festival scheduled June 18-20, 2010 at the Cox Convention Center in downtown OKC
4. Promotional and special events (press conference at the Oklahoma State Capitol, museum exhibit openings, special events, etc)
5. Website administration
6. Any additional duties deemed necessary

Qualified intern is encouraged to participate in as many areas of Red Earth, Inc as possible. This is an unpaid internship, but may be used for college credit. Intern is required to work a minimum of 8 hours per week during semester.
