Nonprofit Museum PR Internship, Fall 2011, likely unpaid

The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City is seeking qualified intern candidates for Fall Semester 2011. Intern will have the opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience working on varied communications and marketing tasks for a nonprofit organization. Internship is unpaid, but we will work with students for applicable college credit. Hours are arranged to the mutual satisfaction of both the Museum and the student.

Qualifications:

Junior or senior pursuing bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, mass communications, journalism or related field. Recent graduates also are welcome to apply
Strong writing skills and familiarity with AP style
Positive attitude and willingness to learn
Ability to work a minimum of 12 hours a week

Major Duties:

Assist as needed with entry-level PR tasks associated with various projects, frequently communicating your progress and challenges to other team members
Write basic press releases, media alerts and magazine copy
Proofread and fact check copy
Monitor and clip publications for media reports
Conduct online research, as requested
Assist with special events in a variety of capacities
Help with administrative work as needed. This may include, but not be limited to filing, making copies, and answering, screening and routing in-bound phone calls.
Arrive on time, dressed professionally for your scheduled shift
Maintain a clean, organized workspace
