Nonprofit PR Internship, Unpaid, Fall 2011

The YWCA Oklahoma City is the only shelter for battered women and children in Oklahoma County. Thousands of women, children and men receive help through YWCA programs each year, including emergency shelter, counseling, support groups, child care, transitional housing, financial literacy and other services. The YWCA also provides education on the issues of domestic and family violence, the empowerment of women and strategies to end racism.

Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to teach interns about the field of communications and public relations in the non profit sector and to help acclimate them to the demands of the profession. Each intern will receive hands-on, real-world experience as they team up with the YWCA on projects such as: public relations and media campaigns, project planning, research and fact gathering, website design, event planning and many others.

Responsibilities:

Prepare press releases regarding organization̢۪s activities and events
Assist with media tracking and planning
Coordinate and implement marketing projects to increase organization awareness.
Assist with social media plans and strategies
Assist in writing and editing monthly eNewsletter
Help with coordination and recruitment of special projects
Manage and assist with design of YWCA website
Assist with all aspects of planning and coordinating YWCA events and fundraisers including: promotion, logistics, obtaining supplies and materials, set-up and day-of event management
Design and create agency collateral materials including brochures, flyers and programs
Requirements:

Major in public relations, journalism, marketing or communications
Strong writing and editing skills
Organized and detailed orientated with a proven ability to multi-task
Self-motivated and able to work in a fast paced environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Knowledge of desktop publishing software (Adobe Illustrator and InDesign)
Basic knowledge of website maintenance
Friendly, outgoing, helpful personality
Time Commitment: Schedule based on individual.
