Special Events Intern for Red Cross of OKC - Probably Unpaid

Purpose:
Assist the Red Cross in delivering its mission to provide relief for victims of disaster and help prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Willingness to support Red Cross Mission
  • Support the Communications and Development department in Red Cross major special events including but not limited to the Heroes Campaign and Operation Relief
  • Assists the department in coordinating other job specific needs for the events and ensures the timeline is communicated for the flow and structure of the event to be maintained with others in the department.
  • Research and contact potential donors for our events
  • Serve as a liaison between our Heroes, committee and staff
  • Distribute posters/flyers to targeted locations, schools and businesses for events
  • Assist Public Relations department in writing and promoting newsworthy stories to increase Red Cross visibility
  • Assist the chapter with the promotion of major events/projects via local media outlets
  • Help procure and pick up donation items for special events.
  • Help maintain social media outreach
  • Works with outside vendors to coordinate services

Qualifications

  • Public Relations or Journalism major or related field
  • Basic knowledge of website maintenance
  • Good organizational skills and able to work in fast passed environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in timely manner
  • Microsoft computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing software (Adobe Creative Skills)
  • Good communications skills both written and verbal
  • General knowledge of Red Cross services
  • Have own transportation
  • Friendly, outgoing, helpful personality
  • Be physically able to perform all duties of the job, which may include extensive standing and/or walking
  • Ability to work with diverse audiences
  • Ability to work well with people in groups and one-on-one

Training

  • Volunteer Orientation
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification
  • On-the-job training

Appointed by Office of Volunteers

Reports to or Partners with Communications and Development Department

Length of Appointment September - May

Time Commitment Flexible schedule available. 10 – 20 hours a week. Some evenings and weekend will be required. January through May will be the most active months
